Coffee-lovers across the country who frequent Starbucks enough to use the chain's app were disappointed Friday to find that the app wasn't working.
The outage came the same day that the company was offering a free reusable red cup with any purchase of a holiday beverage at participating stores. Users were trying to order their holiday drinks when they found that the app wasn't working.
Users were tweeting about the outage sharing the various errors they were seeing in the app. Many noted that the app was failing to recognize store locations and wouldn't allow order placements.
The Starbucks Twitter account was replying to users and said there was no maintenance scheduled for the app and suggested that one user try uninstalling and then reinstalling the app.
A little after 9:15 a.m. EDT Starbucks tweeted "Our team is aware and working quickly to resolve. Thank you for your patience!" to a user asking about the app outage. Another tweet said that they were experiencing an outage and were working to resolve it.
Some Starbucks drinkers were making jokes about the outage and the fact that they might have to actually talk to people in the coffee shop to get their caffeine fix.
SOS the Starbucks app is down now I have to speak to humans to order my coffee

The @Starbucks app is broken and it feels like my own personal apocalypse. I canβt believe I now have to order coffee in person and get zero rewards points like a peasant π
β Emily (@eamanchester15) November 2, 2018Users were also reporting the outage to the website Down Detector Friday. Those reports were about the app, login and the website as well. The reports appeared to be coming from all across the U.S. a map of the reports showed.
Several hours after the issue was first discovered the Starbucks Twitter account was still responding to users apologizing for the app issues. "We're working as quickly as possible to restore functionality and apologize for any inconveniences this is causing," said one message from the company.
Starbucks did not immediately respond to Newsweek's request for comment.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
